I always love visiting Cornwall and when the weather is right you would almost think you're abroad. In June 2023 me and Josh went on a road trip around Cornwall and it was beautiful and full of fun! I'd loved to of stay longer but 6 days is all we could fit in to our summer schedule.
If you're planning a Cornish road trip have a read below and you may find some hidden gems that you'd like to visit.
Day 1 - Travel down to Cornwall, leaving Ipswich at about 3.30am. St Nectans Glen at 10.30am and went for a stunning walk through the beautiful woodland. We parked in the St Nectans Glen Car Park and paid around £3.00 for parking but it is cash only! From the car park it was about a 30min walk to the stunning waterfall. There was also a small cafe and shop in the woodland where you could buy insense sticks, crystals and more. We also paid £9.00 each and did the circular walk. After finishing the walk we then headed
to Tintagel Castle & Merlins Cave. There is a Castle car park but we parked in King Arthurs Car Park as this one is bigger. Entry to Tintagel Castle Prices vary depending on what time of year you go and if you're an English Hertiatage Member. But you can see varied pricing here. From the ticket office you can either Walk down to the castle or use the Land Rover service (not managed but English Hertitage). We walked down to the castle and then got the Land Rover back up as its a steep climb. By this point we fancied a cold drink so we headed to a lovely local pub just up from the ticket office called Ye Old Malthouse Inn. Next door the Inn is local pottery shop, definatly take a look in there we came out with a mini ceramic cornish pastie! From Tintagel we travelled to our first Air BnB located in Newquay for the week. For dinner that night we walked down to Fistral Beach which was about 5mins from the AirBnB ate at The Fistral Stable.
Day 2 - Started off with breakfast a the AirBnb. We then headed to Watergate Beach for a group surf lesson with West Country Surf School I think we paid about £39.00 each and they provide you with a wetsuit and a board. Altogether the lesson was about 2/2.5hours and we spent about 15/20mins going through technique and then we were offer in to the sea. The school even have their own photographer which at the end of the lesson you can purchase all the photos (the good and the bad?) from them for about £20 and we received over 40 photos.
From Surfing we headed to Healeys Cyder Farm. Entry to the Resturant, farm and shop are free however we purchased a CyderMaster Pass which gives you access to sampling over 60 products in the healeys tasting room (including cyder, spirits, wine, soft drinks, home-made jam and more thats made directly on site), you also get acces to the healey car show room, press house, production halls, museum, distillery, cellars and more. Prices vary for dependant on season and if you prebook like we did, but you can see prices for the CyderMaster Pass here. That night we headed back to the Air BnB and cooked dinner and chilled.
Day 3 - We had to be checked out of the Air BnB by 10am so we headed out early for Perranporth for a breakfast pastie. (side note - one of the best places for a drink in my opinion is The Watering Hole we didnt visit there this time as we got there slightly too early!). From breakfast we headed to St Michaels Mount but on the way through Redruth we spotted a sign for Cornwall Gold and made a quick stop. Cornwall Gold is free to visit with lots of thins to do like a Tolgus Mill Tour and Panning for Gold for the kids. we treated ourselves to some beautiful peices of cornish jewellery. We were then back on the road to St Michaels Mount, Marazion. Parking can be quite tight but we parked here and walked down the beach in to town. To access St Micheals Mount to must prebook your ticket, and getting to the island will depend on if the tide is in or out. If the tide is in you will also need to prebook your boat crossing.
Tickets prices cost between £15.00 per adult for access to the castle only or £26.00 for a combination ticket that also gives you access to the gardens too. Family tickets start from £22.50 for a small family (1 adult and 3 children) & £37.50 for a family (2 adults and 3 children). For boast crossing its £2.80 per adult one way, £1.50 per child one way and under one's go free.
After coming back from the island we both fancied ice cream and we found the BEST shop ever! You can find it here... thank me later!
We then headed to our second AirBnB in Mousehole. That afternoon we had a little wonder around Mousehole, it was sucha beautiful fishmens village with a few small boutique shops. When then had dinner at The Ship Inn and the food was amazing.
We then spent the rest of the evening walking around and having a few drinks in each pub we found.
Day 4 - We have breakfast at the Air BnB then we were out on the road heading to the Minack Theatre. We didn't park at the Theatre, instead we parked further away (here) and walked along the Porthcurno beach and up the cliff staircase. I've always wanted to go to the Minack Theatre and it didn't disappoint, even though the weather wasnt on our side the views were beautiful and I'd love to go back and watch a performance there.
We then walked back to the car via the roads and grabbed some lunch at a cafe we came across on the way down. We then headed for a hike along the S W Coast Path to Lands End. We started the hike from Sennen Cove Car Park. Along the route you'll go past the lookout point, keep on going and you'll go past a small sign for the Mayon Ship Wreck. You can go down to wreck but its very rocky and slippery. Josh decided to head down while I stayed at the top of the cliff.
We carried on along the path to the First & Last House then on to Lands End, had a well deserved drink in The Lands End Hotel. We also play a round of mini golf (of course) and had a look around the shops before heading back along the coastal path to Sennen Cove Beach.
Day 5 - We had a bit of a lay in and had a lazy breakfast at the Air Bnb before checking out and heading to our next location. Our first stop of the day was the Seal Sanctuary in Gweek which was £21.99 each. From there we went to Mullion Harbour for lunch in a super sweet family run cafe. We then headed for another costal walk around Kaynance Cove & Lizard Point.
After a lovely long we checked in to our last AirBnB of the trip in Falmouth. We spent the late afternoon/evening strolling through the streets of Falmouth before having dinner at The Falmouth Stable. We then chilled at the AirBnB and had an early night ready for our last day and drive home.
Day 6 - We got super early and headed for breakfast at the Norway Inn before heading to the Eden Project for when it opened. I've been to Eden about 3 or 4 times now and it still amazes me. Ticket prices for Eden do vary depending on if you prebook for example, and Adult ticket in advance costs £38.00 but on the day is £42.00. There are plenty of entry options to choose from depending on if you want to add extras on such as the zip wire and tours. After strolling around for the morning we then started the long journey home back to Suffolk.
We had the best time in Cornwall and I love going back there as there is always something new to discover, we are already starting to plan our next Cornish Road Trip!
I'd love to know if you've been to Cornwall or if your planning on going. If you are where will you be visiting?
